      SHORT PROVENCE VIDEO STORIES
Seen from the road from Brignoles, Carcès awaits a coming storm.
Entering Carcès, one of many clever murals awaits visitors. This one portrays the town as it would have looked in another era. Photo by Stacy Silverwood.
Heading south from Cotignac, Carcès lies beyond just a few of its many vineyards.
And entering the town itself, another mural tricks the eye for an instant.
Photographer/guest Erin Lubin came upon another of the town's murals.
Early evening light in downtown Carcès.
      Preparing temptations in the patisserie.
      Freshly baked.
      What to buy?
In a not-too-distant past, this old mobile wine press was taken door to door so villagers could press their own wine.
      Café society.
Singers drop into a local café.
      Fresh fruit in the market.
A nursery comes to Saturday market beneath another mural depicting a moment from history.
Musicians make merry in the Saturday market.
Olive trees punctuate a nearby vineyard.
After the harvest, vines begin their fall transition.
Fall harvest, the vendange, is a busy time of year.
Every vineyard is alive with busy harvestors.
The vineyards go on and on.
Tractors hauling grapes through town to the cooperative.
      Bottling time at the cooperative.
Bottles to be tested (not ready for public tasting) at the cooperative.
NOW it's ready to be tasted.
On the perimeter of Carcès, villagers maintain produce gardens.
The Argens river is one of two that meet in Carcès.
      Kayakers on the river.
Kids enjoy swimming in the river.
      And swinging!
Walk toward the Lac de Carcès, take a detour to the left, and you will come upon this little waterfall.
This waterfall is closer, just out our garden gate, through the gardens below, and to the Caramy River. Stay to the left to see the watefall before the Caramy joins the Argens.
Turn left out the front door, go past the cooperative, and the school, turn right toward Lac de Carcès, and just walk.
      The perimeter gardens await.
      Afternoon light on nearby houses.
Evening preparations at a local café.
Vide greniers (like village-wide garage sales) attract young and old. We outfitted much of our house at vide Greniers.
Fall is also the season of the olive harvest. The cooperative is home to one of France's last water-driven water mills.
Inside the olive mill, a man prepares the wheel to begin its work.
Merry maker at the Saturday market just before Christmas.
Even when bare, the trees are beautiful.
As are the vineyards in the winter light.
A rare freeze turns a fountain around the corner from the house into an ice sculpture.
      Poppies begin their springtime show.
The Abbaye de Thoronet, centuries old, is just a few minutes’ drive.
And in Aix-en-Provence, a picturesque cafè awaits.
      Readying the tables for dinner.
Lunch on the beach in Nice.
Small fishing boats on the Cote d'Azur.
      Evening on the Cote d'Azur.
      A fountain in Cotignac.
      Poppies and just budding grapevines.
The garden in Entrecasteaux was an inspiration for Versailles. It's true.
The Gorges de Verdon is just an hours’ drive away.
Lavender fields near Sault, farther to the west and north.
      Street theatre.
And another mural depicting the way it was… on the wall of the local cooperative, just down the street.
